Whether
it is for Earth Sciences where our program
specifically meets curriculum outcomes for Years 4 and 8, or other
areas
such as Environment, History, Creative Writing, we can tailor your tour
to your particular requirements.
Please contact us so we can discuss what will work best for your group.
There is no specific maximum group size, and this will likely
depend on
the amount of time you have available. With groups of more
than 40 we prefer to split them into two separate groups that tour
consecutively through the cave.
If you have two groups and your focus is earth sciences the group
outside has the opportunity to discuss/examine the overall karst
landscape
and look for fossils in the limestone above ground, with the assistance
of outline material we supply to teachers.
Those underground will learn about the processes of limestone cave
geomorphology, crystal formation with samples to be examined and
discussed,
and environmental concerns of human use and effects on the limestone
landscape.
If your group is interested in the visual arts or creative writing the
cave environment is a
treasure house of sculpted rock, fabulous textures, shadows and
colours.
If music is your focus the cave has impeccable acoustics (see our Music
in the Cave page) and you are welcome to sing, play, or conduct
workshops.
TIME REQUIRED
The usual time spent in the
cave for a group is 1½ hours, which actually seems to go
very quickly, however this can be varied.
Depending whether you travel by coach, small bus or car your travel
time will vary - please consult Coach Access page.
When your group arrives students usually need about 15mins for
refreshments etc before touring, so factor all this into your time
calculations.
COST
Cost
of tour is $15 per
student, one teacher per 10 FOC, extras at student rate.
Underground workshop components such as Grow - A - Cave require about
½ an hour either of this time or as an extra,
and does have an additional cost due to preparation time and materials.
Payment can be made on day by cash or cheque, or we will issue a tax
invoice which your school may pay afterwards.
RISK ASSESSMENT
We have a risk assessment prepared for your convenience - please
contact us and we will email it to you.
RESOURCE
MATERIAL
Our
links page has
extensive information on cave processes, however we also have some

For teachers we have prepared a mind-map which shows optional strands
that you may wish to pursue on your visit, both above and below ground.
